STAGE 2: The Smile Trial: This stage allows the patients to see the end-result without any actual drilling to their teeth. This process involves temporarily placing filling materials on the teeth to allow patients to visualize the final veneer/crown shape and colour. Photos and videos of the patients face before and after the Smile Trial will be presented. Adjustments are done on the mockup material with discussion between dentist and the patient. If the patient decides not to proceed with treatment, rest assured that everything done up to here is not permanent, and there is no obligation to proceed after this session.
STAGE 3: Tooth Preparation & Temporization:
Once the patient decides to embark on the treatment, there is a possibility of irreversible changes to the tooth as part of the preparation. The dentist may need to give local anaesthetic to numb the area. Preparation of the tooth may require removing a thin layer from the tooth's surface to create space for the veneer/crown. A scan is taken of your teeth to create a digital mould. The exposed tooth will be covered with a temporary veneer/crown.
During the procedure, a veneer preparation may be converted into a dental crown preparation depending on the condition of your teeth as certain conditions may only be apparent after removal of the existing restoration. The dentist will endeavour to inform you beforehand if this is likely, so that you may decide how you would like to proceed.
The temporary veneers/crowns placed will be similar to your smile trial design, except that it takes into better account the teeth position and your feedback (from the initial smile trial appointment). These temporary veneers allow you to see how your new teeth will align with your personal preferences and facial features, and can last for a few days to a week.
Temporary veneers/crowns are made of a weaker material than the permanent veneers/crowns. The surface texture, appearance and colour are not indicative of the permanent veneers/crowns. They are not able to withstand chewing on tougher foods, teeth grinding/clenching. They are typically not recommended for longer than 2 weeks.
STAGE 4: Review: A review appointment is done 2-3 days after the temporary veneers/crowns have been placed. This review appointment is very important, as the final shape and colour of the veneers will be decided here.
During this appointment, modifications can be done on the temporary veneers/crowns and can be copied onto the final veneers/crowns. Once the shade and form of the veneers has been confirmed, the final veneers/crowns will be created and any changes thereafter will have costs borne by the patient.
PLEASE NOTE: We aim to create a cosmetic result that is pleasing to the patient by making every possible effort to match the shade and form of the veneers to your existing teeth. However, there are inherent differences between natural teeth and the artificial materials used for veneers, making it impossible to have the shade and form perfectly match your natural teeth.
STAGE 5: Bonding the Veneers/crowns occurs at the next appointment. The veneers/crowns will be made based on the design confirmed upon at the review appointment.
The dentist will check on the colour and fit before bonding them into place. To achieve a natural looking outcome, the veneer/crown may need to be adjusted and the ceramic staining may need to be done multiple times to achieve the desired outcome. Once veneers are bonded to place on the teeth, should the patient desire any changes later, there will be a fee chargeable to cover any extensive adjustments or remakes.
STAGE 6: Review: 1 week after your veneer/crown bonding, a follow up appointment will be arranged to make minor adjustments to your bite, remove any excess cement and do a final polish of your veneers/crowns. At this stage, we would also be taking records for a mouthguard should one be required.
