Aesthetic Veneers & Crowns Aftercare

Post-care for veneers is essential to maintain their longevity and appearance. Here are some guidelines to follow:

  1. Anaesthesia: If you have been given anaesthesia, it will take a few hours to wear off so please be careful during this period. Please wait until the numbness wears off before eating or drinking anything hot.

  2. Oral Hygiene: Continue to practice good oral hygiene by brushing at least twice a day and flossing daily. Use a non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush to avoid damaging the veneers.

  3. Try to avoid direct biting forces on the veneers/crowns:  Veneers/crowns are strongly bonded onto your natural teeth, but damaging shearing forces over time can cause them to dislodge. Just like natural teeth, they can also chip with hard objects.
Be cautious when eating hard or sticky foods that could potentially chip or dislodge your veneers. Cut hard foods into smaller pieces, and avoid biting directly into very hard objects.

  4. Avoid Destructive Habits: Refrain from using your teeth as tools to open packages or biting your nails, as this can damage your veneers.

  5. Avoid Staining Foods and Beverages: Minimize consumption of foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and colored sauces. If you do consume staining substances, consider using a straw to minimize contact with your veneers.

  6. Wear a Mouthguard: If you grind your teeth at night or participate in contact sports, it is essential to wear a mouthguard to protect your veneers from damage.

  7. Regular Dental Check-ups: Maintain regular dental check-ups and cleanings to ensure the health of your veneers and the underlying teeth. Your dentist will examine the veneers for any signs of wear or damage.

  8. Address Any Issues Promptly: If you experience any discomfort, sensitivity, or notice damage to your veneers, contact your dentist immediately for an evaluation and potential repairs.

Remember that veneers are not permanent, and their lifespan can vary depending on factors like oral hygiene, dietary habits, and the quality of care. By following these post-care recommendations and maintaining regular dental visits, you can extend the life and appearance of your veneers.
