Braces Introduction

The aim for orthodontic treatment is not just to straighten teeth and improve aesthetics but also to re-align the teeth in order to improve functionality and positioning of the teeth, assist in easier cleaning and maintenance of the teeth, improve chewing capabilities, speech problems, gum damage and reduce tooth wear.

Nowadays, there are a few different options in terms of braces (bands, brackets, wires, aligners):

Traditional Metal Braces
  • Brackets made of stainless steel and selected metal alloys
  • It is relatively inexpensive compared to other orthodontic treatments
  • It requires more frequrent visits
Self-Ligating Braces

There are two materials that we offer:

  1. Metal – made of stainless steel and selected metal alloys
  2. Ceramic – considered “clear braces” and are more aesthetically pleasing than metal
  • These can cause less friction and discomfort on teeth compared to conventional metal braces
  • It also requires less “chair-time” and fewer visits to the orthodontist
  • Because there are no elastics or metal ties, they could be easier to clean
 Invisalign
  • Series of clear, removable aligners. Also called “invisible braces”
  • Beneficial for oral health because it allows for normal brushing and flossing
  • May require minimal shaving of teeth to create space for desired teeth movements
  • Requires patient’s compliance for effective treatment
