Dental Crown Treatment Process

TYPICAL TREATMENT PROCESS

STAGE 1: Crown Consultation:

Comprehensive examination and treatment planning to check:

  • Which tooth is affected and the extent of damage
  • The status of the nerve in your tooth
  • The health of the gums that support the tooth

Based on this information, our dentists will take photos and digital X-rays of your teeth and explain the treatment options available. This is an opportunity to ask your dentist any questions you may have about the treatment.

STAGE 2: Tooth Preparation and 3D Scanning:

A thin layer of tooth structure will need to be removed, to ensure there is enough space for the crown to fit in your bite, and sufficient thickness to withstand heavy chewing forces. Your dentist will remove just enough tooth structure to make room for the crown, whilst also preserving the health of the tooth.

A 3D scanner (CEREC) is then used to create a 3D model of your teeth and is the foundation to creating the crown. The exposed tooth can be covered with a temporary crown although this is usually unnecessary at our clinic as we offer same day crowns.

STAGE 3: Designing, Milling and Hand Finishing of the Crown:

Using the CEREC CAD/CAM software, we create the shape of the new crown, taking into account the biting forces and how the crown fits with the neighbouring teeth. The crown is then milled in-house, and our dental technician then hand-finishes the crown to ensure the fit and aesthetics of the crown is satisfactory.

STAGE 4: Cementing the Crown:

Please be aware that while every effort will be made to match the crown to the rest of your teeth, variations in color and shape may exist, and an exact match cannot be guaranteed. We aim for the best possible aesthetic result while ensuring the crown functions effectively and maintains your oral health.

After your approval, the crown will be permanently cemented in place. It's important to note that once the cement is applied between the crown and your teeth, it becomes a permanent fixture and cannot be altered.

Aftewards, your bite will be checked, and the crown will be adjusted and polished.

STAGE 5: Review Check: Your dentist will see you about a week later to make sure that you are adjusting well to the new crown. This is the time to report any issues or discomfort with the crown so modifications can be made.

Dental Designs Clinic In-House Laboratory

Modern advances in dental technology has allowed us to be able to fabricate a crown in the clinic, under our full control. Unlike traditional dental laboratories, which are made off-site, we make all our crowns and bridges in-house to ensure better quality control.

Our dentists keep themselves up to date with international techniques that are effective and comfortable for you. We use a fully digital workflow and use a 3D scanner (CEREC) to take impressions of your teeth, which means no uncomfortable dental moulds are required. We also make the final crown straight away, and can deliver it on the same day, minimizing downtime and eliminating the need for temporary crowns which are usually rough and fall-off easily.

All our crowns and bridges made in-house are 100% metal-free, and do not contain mercury or other toxins. We make Ceramic and Zirconia crowns with the use of high-quality materials with a long track record of success. Each crown or bridge is designed individually, hand stained, polished and finished and inspected carefully before being cemented. Each crown is hand painted to create life-like aesthetics to match your teeth as naturally as possible.
