Gingivectomy and Crown Lengthening Treatment Process

TYPICAL TREATMENT PROCESS

STAGE 1: Consultation:

Your dentist will conduct a detailed examination of your oral condition and it may include the following:

  • Comprehensive dental examination and explanation of findings
  • Soft tissue and gum check
  • A discussion about your dental concerns, goals and desires
  • A series of dental photographs or X-rays to assess the extent of gum tissue and bone
  • Discussion of alternative treatment options
  • An opportunity to ask a dentist any questions you may have about our treatments
  • A treatment plan

During your initial consultation, our experienced dental professionals will assess the extent of your condition, discussing the potential benefits and downsides of the Gingivectomy or Crown Lengthening procedures. Our philosophy is for both our dentist and you to have a detailed understanding of the situation so that you can make the right decision for yourself.

STAGE 2: Procedure:
During the Gingivectomy or Crown Lengthening Procedure, the following steps are generally followed:

Gingivectomy

1. Local Anesthesia: This procedure can be done with the choice of with or without any anaesthetic due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure. Local Anesthesia is usually administered for better comfort.

2. Precision laser application: to gently and precisely remove excess gum tissue

3. Closure: Typically requires no sutures.

Crown Lengthening Procedure:

1. Local Anesthesia:  Typically administered to ensure comfort throughout the procedure.

2. Surgical Site Preparation: Where possible, Precision laser application will be used to contour the gums and bone. A surgical flap may be raised to access the area to remove excess gum tissue and bone as needed. The goal is to achieve a more proportionate gum-to-tooth ratio and expose more of the natural tooth surface. The extent of bone removal, if needed, will be determined during the procedure.

3. Closure: For single tooth, stitches are usually not necessary. If crown lengthening is performed on multiple teeth, there may be a surgical flap raised and thus require stitches.

STAGE 3: Post-Procedure Review:
Following the procedure, your dentist will schedule a post-operative review to ensure proper healing and address any questions or concerns you may have.
