Sinus Lift Surgery Treatment Process

STAGE 1: Sinus Lift Consultation: Your dentist will conduct a detailed examination of your oral condition and it may include the following:

  • Comprehensive dental examination and explanation of findings
  • Soft tissue and gum check
  • Bite Analysis
  • A discussion about your dental concerns, goals and desires
  • A series of dental photographs or X-rays
  • Discussion of alternative treatment options
  • An opportunity to ask a dentist any questions you may have about our treatments
  • Habits (e.g. smoking and grinding)
  • A treatment plan

This consultation serves to assess the specific condition of your upper jaw, determine the type of Sinus Lift needed, and discuss the potential benefits of the procedure. Our philosophy is for both our dentist and you to have a detailed understanding of the situation so that you can make the right decision for yourself.

STAGE 2: 3D Intraoral Scanning + 3D X-ray:

A 3D CBCT X-ray may be taken during this time to assess the structures such as the sinus cavity, bone thickness, proximity of the neighboring teeth and roots, which would aid in the treatment planning and improve the surgical outcome.

STAGE 3: Sinus Lift Procedure:
During the Sinus Lift procedure, the following steps are generally followed:

1. Anesthesia: You will receive local anesthesia to ensure your comfort during the procedure. IV Sedation whereby you can be in a semi-concious state, is also available for this procedure. For more information or if you would like to have IV Sedation, please inform us at least 3-4 weeks prior to your appointment as it requires time to arrange for it.

2. Surgical Site Preparation: Your dentist will make a small incision in the gum tissue, and access the sinus cavity through the underlying bone. As the sinus membrane is very delicate, the procedure takes time.

3. Bone Grafting: A bone grafting material is carefully placed in the created space between the sinus membrane and the jawbone. This graft material serves as a scaffold for new bone growth. If you have concerns or requirements about the type of graft used, please ask your dentist prior to the procedure.

Types of graft material: Some bone graft and membrane material commonly used are derived from human or other mammal sources. These grafts are thoroughly purified by different means to be free from contaminants. Signing this consent form gives your approval for the doctor to use such materials according to their knowledge and clinical judgment for your situation.

4. Closure: After the bone graft is placed, the incision is closed with sutures.
