What Is MediSave?

MediSave is a government savings scheme for Singapore citizens and permanent resident. A portion of their income is set aside for future medical expenses. MediSave can be utilised for medical as well as dental treatments.

When it comes to dental treatments, MediSave can only be used to offset the cost of approved procedures such as dental surgeries and selected medically-necessary treatments. There are guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MOH) which subject dental procedures to specific eligibility criteria.

Can I Use MediSave For Dental Treatments?

According to the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board, MediSave can only be used for surgical dental treatments or medically necessary dental procedures. Any dental procedures involving day surgeries are also subject to MediSave withdrawal limits.

This means that routine, non-surgical treatments such as teeth cleaning, dental fillings, simple tooth extractions, dental crowns, dentures, and teeth straightening (orthodontic) treatments such asdental braces and Invisalign are not covered under MediSave.

For senior citizens aged 60 and above, the Flexi-MediSave scheme has been expanded for them to include permanent crowns and root canal treatments. This is effective as of 1 June 2026, with a limit of up to $400 per year. It gives eligible seniors more flexibility in using their MediSave savings for non-surgical and essential restorative dental care. Find out more here.

What Can MediSave Be Used For?

MediSave can be used only for surgical and medically necessary treatments. It can be used to partially or fully offset the cost of dental procedures, such as:

  • Surgical removal of wisdom tooth: This includes impacted wisdom tooth extraction and complex wisdom tooth surgeries. This does not include standard non-surgical tooth extractions.

  • Insertion of dental implants: The dental implant procedure involves multiple phases. MediSave can only be utilised during the appointment involving surgical placement of dental implant fixture.

  • Removal of dental implants

What Dental Treatments Are Not Covered By MediSave?

While MediSave is helpful in offsetting the cost of approved dental treatments, everyday dental care that doesn’t involve surgery is usually not eligible, such as:

  • Scaling and polishing

  • Dental fillings

  • Simple tooth removals or non-surgical extractions

  • Dentures

  • Dental crowns and bridges (non-surgical)

  • Teeth straightening/Orthodontic treatments like dental braces and Invisalign

  • Teeth whitening and other aesthetic treatments

How Much MediSave Can I Use?

The amount that can be claimed depends on various factors, such as the type of dental procedure and withdrawal limits. This is typically determined after a consultation, thorough oral examination and dental x-rays (if required) are done to create your personalised treatment plan.

After the assessment, your dentist will be able to explain which procedure is MediSave-claimable, which is not, and to advise you on the estimated out-of-pocket costs before the treatment begins.

How To Make A MediSave Claim For My Dental Treatment?

Here’s an easy, step-by-step guide:

  1. Choose an MOH-accredited clinic: All our dentists at Dental Designs Clinic are fully MOH-accredited, so you can utilise Medisave for approved dental treatments with confidence.

  2. Book a consultation: Schedule a checkup appointment with our dentists. During this appointment, they will assess your condition, and provide a personalised treatment plan. They will also be able to advise you if the treatment you require qualifies for MediSave.

  3. Bring your NRIC and inform us: On the day of your treatment, bring your NRIC on the day of treatment and let us know in advance that you want to use MediSave. This helps us prepare everything smoothly.

  4. Sign the Medical Claims Authorisation Form (MCAF): This form provides the clinic permission to deduct the approved amount from your MediSave account. It is signed on the day of the treatment appointment.

  5. Submission of claims and payment of remaining balance: After the treatment, our team will submit the claim directly to CPF on your behalf. Any remaining payment amount will have to be paid out-of-pocket.

What Happens If My MediSave Is Not Enough?

If your MediSave account doesn’t have sufficient funds, you may still be able to:

  • Use the account of an immediate family member, with their consent
