Full Mouth Rehabilitation

What is Full Mouth Rehabilitation?

Full mouth rehabilitation refers to a combination of dental procedures that involves treating most or every single tooth in the mouth, to restore your oral health to as near normal as possible.

This approach is typically indicated for individuals facing multiple dental problems that affect the function, health and aesthetics of their smile with issues such as:

  • Multiple missing teeth or spacings in between several teeth
  • Multiple teeth with large fillings, cavities, cracks or chips
  • Multiple rotated, crooked and uneven teeth
  • Gum disease such as inflammation of the gum or consistent bleeding from gums on brushing
  • Severe bone loss or bone ridge deformation

Problems Caused by Worn Out Teeth

Bite problems

Having multiple worn-down teeth, loss of back teeth or a lopsided bite can affect chewing or speaking and cause changes in the bone structure

Jaw Joint Problems

Uneven loading of the left and right jaw joints due to a lopsided bite can cause degeneration of the jaw joint and Temporomandibular disorders (TMD)

Sleep Apnea

Loss of teeth structure results in a shortening of the lower face, and the lower jaw may move backwards, reducing the amount of space for the tongue. This can result in higher risk of sleep apnea.

Uneven Smile

Teeth that have worn down over time become shorter and may not even be visible when you smile, leading to a look that prematurely ages your appearance.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation: Is it right for me?

Full mouth rehabilitation is typically recommended for individuals who have multiple dental issues and in general, we aim to restore:

  • Teeth and gum health
  • Jaw joint and muscles function
  • Appearance of smile

At Dental Designs, we take a holistic approach to treatment, considering the patient as a whole rather than focusing solely on individual teeth or segments of the mouth.

We recognise the interconnected nature of our teeth, joints and muscles and strive to ensure they work together seamlessly as a single functioning unit. This comprehensive approach ensures that all dental issues are thoroughly addressed, alleviating any pain or discomfort and enhancing your quality of life.

Understanding Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Full mouth rehabilitation addresses a wide range of issues affecting the teeth, gums, jaws and even the lips and jaw joints, so as to help with chewing, reducing discomfort and restoring a confident smile.

Our dentists employ modern dental technology, such as digital imaging and 3D x-rays to create detailed treatment plans tailored to your specific needs.

Consequently, no two full mouth rehabilitation patients are alike and the treatment procedures vary widely, ranging from a combination of simple restorations, dental crowns and teeth whitening to complex surgical procedures.

Feature

Number of implants needed

Implant placement

Implant angulation

Need for bone grafting and other surgical procedures like sinus lift and nerve repositioning

Treatment timeline

Traditional Implants

Requires one implant for each missing tooth

Implants have to be placed where the individual tooth is missing

Align with adjacent teeth and supporting bone

High probability, especially if sufficient bone is not present to support the implant, or vital structures like nerves and sinus membrane are in close proximity

Have to wait for a healing period of 3-6 months before artificial teeth can be placed

All-on-4 Implants

Requires 4 implants to replace an entire jaw of missing teeth

Implants are strategically placed in areas of jawbone with the highest bone density

Two implants at the back are placed at 30-45 degrees

Less probability of requiring adjunct surgical procedures

You receive your temporary artificial teeth immediately after placement of the implants

What It Means If You Choose All-on-4

Overall cost of treatment is reduced

Stable implants and artificial teeth

Stress from daily activities such as chewing and swallowing is distributed efficiently

Overall cost of treatment is reduced, less recovery time and less stress for patient

Patient receive their new teeth on the same day as surgery

Full mouth rehabilitation addresses issues such as rotated, discoloured or missing teeth with treatment procedures such as Invisalign, dental veneers and teeth whitening and this gives you a beautiful smile.

Full mouth rehabilitation addresses multiple oral health issues, therefore also contributing to good general health. For example, some patients may be suffering from chronic dental pain, which can significantly impact their overall well-being. Full mouth rehabilitation can help alleviate this discomfort.

By addressing existing dental concerns, full mouth rehabilitation can prevent future oral health issues, thereby saving you time and money.

How is Full Mouth Rehabilitation Different At Dental Designs?

Here is how we maximise the success of full mouth rehabilitation!

1. Our Equipment
  • 3D X-Ray/CBCT: This is a specialised type of x-ray technology that is used to produce a 3D image of teeth, jaw bone and the surrounding structures.

  • 3D Face Scan: Our facial scanner comprises six high resolution cameras and an integrated ring light to take pictures and seamlessly converts them into a 3D face scan.

  • Digital Impressions: We use an intra-oral scanner to capture digital dental scans of your teeth, ensuring a comfortable experience.

  • 3D Printing Technology: Our 3D printer allows us to utilise the digital impressions of your teeth to fabricated multiple dental prostheses, surgical guides and even replicas of your teeth.

  • CEREC CAD/CAM Technology: This is a form of computer technology that is able to analyze your biting forces and take it into account to design and manufacture dental prostheses that are not only strong and durable, but also possess good aesthetics and function well.
2. Our Techniques
  • Prosthetically-driven treatment: We take a holistic approach to patient care, considering your overall oral health rather than just individual teeth or segments. This includes creating a prosthetically-driven treatment plan that is designed based on your desired functional and aesthetic outcomes, ensuring that your treatment not only looks good but also serves you well for many years to come.

  • Use of Surgical Guides for a Fully Guided Keyhole Implant Surgery: We create a customised surgical guide for each patient who requires dental implants. This enables us to utilise the "keyhole" technique, which involves making just a small gum opening for implant insertion, thus reducing tissue trauma.

  • Smile Trial: As full mouth rehabilitation involves multiple teeth, you have the option to make improvements to your smile. The smile trial lets you preview what an ideal smile could look like on your teeth, in real life, without any actual drilling on your teeth. It is like a test-run, so if you decide not to proceed with treatment, everything is reversible.
3. Our Clinic
  • Experienced Dentists: Our dentists have attended international certification courses and are accredited to perform All-on-4 surgery, digital smile design (DSD) and full mouth rehabilitation treatment.

  • In-House Laboratory: We make all our crowns, bridges, surgical guides, retainers and other dental prostheses in our own dental laboratory, which is integrated with a fully digital workflow to ensure quality control. They are all made 100% metal-free and do not contain any mercury toxins.

  • Skilled Dental Technicians: Full mouth rehabilitation treatment requires extensive planning and teamwork between the dentist and the dental technician who fabricates the prostheses. At Dental Designs, the combination of experienced dentists and in house laboratory to provide a fully customised result for each patient.

Is Full Mouth Rehabilitation Painful?

Full mouth rehabilitation can vary in discomfort depending on the procedures and individual pain tolerance. Local anesthesia is typically used to minimise discomfort during treatments like tooth extractions or implant placement. After the procedure, you may experience soreness which can be managed with pain medication.

Overall, modern dental techniques and anaesthesia help to minimise pain during the process. Our dentists at Dental Designs will prioritise your safety and comfort throughout the entire process.

5. Review check

We will arrange regular follow-up appointments to assess your progress and confirm the effectiveness of your treatment.

We recommend all full mouth rehabilitation patients to attend a check-up appointment every six months at a minimum. Early detection of any issues significantly improves the chances of successful treatment.

To ensure the long-term success of your treatment, it is crucial to adhere to the instructions given by your dentist. This includes maintaining good oral hygiene and attending regular dental check-ups. Following these recommendations will help preserve the health and beauty of your new smile for years to come.

Cost of Full Mouth Rehabilitation in Singapore

The cost of full mouth rehabilitation can vary significantly, depending on the treatment plan developed by the dentist for each individual patient. Factors influencing the cost include the extent of dental work needed, the specific treatments involved and the materials selected for the restorations and artificial teeth, amongst many others. For example, cases requiring multiple dental implants with zirconia restorations will surely cost more than those requiring fillings and veneers.

Therefore, the cost of a full mouth rehabilitation in Singapore starts from a few thousand dollars. However, it is important to note that investing in full mouth rehabilitation can lead to long-term cost savings by preventing further dental damage or complications from developing.

During your consultation, your dentist will assess your specific needs and provide you with a detailed breakdown of the costs involved. This will enable you to make an informed decision about your treatment and budget accordingly.

This dental clinic has very good staff who are well trained and friendly. The dentists are also very good and will explain the treatment in detail before starting treatment. The equipment is very high tech and I believe they are able to do high quality work as I did my crown here and it looks much better than my colleague who also recently did his at another place. The waiting room is also very comfortable. good job!

This clinic is one of the best I have ever seen. I saw dr Justin for my implant which I did many years ago, the tooth was loose, and other drs told me to remove it as they could not find out what brand it was but dr Justin was able to take 3d xrays and locate the brand and specially ordered the part in. he saved me from having to do a surgery to remove and put a new implant which would have cost me a bomb. the tooth looks even better than the original thanks to the experieced dental technician Katsuya from Japan.

Very happy and will keep coming back for my regular dental.

G. Hock An

my workplace is close by and I had a problem with my tooth for a few days, so I made an appointment to come down. The receptionist who booked my appointment was very helpful and friendly to explain the way to the clinic from my office. I saw Dr Nicholas who was able to do a root canal treatment on the same visit so that I didn't need to come back. I felt safe and comfortable to do my dental treatment here as the dental picks are all wrapped up and sterilized and only opened before each treatment when im inside.

Frequently Asked Questions About Full Mouth Rehabilitation In Singapore

Teeth can be damaged or lost, leading to severely compromised dental health. Additionally, behavioural factors such as teeth grinding or excessive consumption of acidic food can accelerate natural wear and tear, further complicating the issue.

As a result, the loss of tooth structure and dental damage to teeth can make it challenging to chew and speak and may also cause discomfort in the jaw and muscles. These issues can significantly impact an individual's confidence and overall quality of life.

Full mouth rehabilitation can address these issues, ensuring a balanced, functional and healthy bite.

As with all procedures, there are certain potential problems associated with full mouth rehabilitation. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Adverse reactions to anaesthetic, drugs and medications
  • Infection
  • Post-operative sensitivity/pain
  • Decay under the crown
  • Wear, chipping, dislodgement of filling
  • Loosening of crowns
  • Gum recession/inflammation
  • Food impaction

Full mouth rehabilitation is designed to be a long-term solution, often lasting a lifetime with proper care. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings, as well as meticulous at-home oral hygiene maintenance including brushing and flossing around the implants, are essential to prevent complications such as infection or gum disease. Additionally, proper care of the artificial teeth, such as avoiding hard or sticky foods that can damage them, can help ensure their longevity.

Maintenance of good dental health is also dependent on you, the patient. In cases of dental neglect, disease is unavoidable. The warranty is only valid if you abide by the following conditions:

  1. Regular Checkup and Cleaning: Bacteria build up on your teeth naturally, which cannot completely be removed by just brushing. This causes tooth decay and gum disease. Remember to go for your 6-monthly checkups and professional cleaning at the dentist to keep your teeth healthy.
  2. Following the Dentist’s Instructions: Follow all the instructions regarding a soft diet, gum and teeth management, and careful use of the bridges.
  3. Good Oral Hygiene: Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day and following any special instructions your dentist or hygienist has given you to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.
  4. Please notify us and come in for a check immediately once you encounter any problems after the treatment. Any delay may result in more damage to the condition.
